Professional Membership

Professional membership is open to individuals who have received an accredited bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or a related mental health field. Learn more about the pathways toward professional membership.

Eligibility for Professional membership requires you to meet at least one of the following criteria:

 

  • Fully licensed or practicing independently as a Systemic Family Therapist or MFT or in a related mental health field.
  • Have graduated with a degree that allows you to work on requirements towards full licensure or independent practice of MFT or related mental health field.
  • Meet the basic requirements to pursue the Clinical Fellow Designation. 

 

National Dues for Professional Membership and Related Categories:

All dues and fees are nonrefundable and subject to change.

  • $216 for Professional members in the US.
  • $184 for members outside of the US.
  • $161 for Affiliate members for those who do not meet AAMFT Student or Professional membership requirements but still want to be a part of the AAMFT family.
  • $146 for early professionals who have recently graduated and are still working towards full licensure or independent practice. 
  • $99 for emerging professionals fully enrolled in an MFT doctoral program or related mental health field.

Student Member

Student membership is open to students who are currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution for a bachelor's or master's degree program in Marriage and Family Therapy or related mental health field.

Student membership is not a guarantee of eventual Professional membership or state/provisional licensure as a mental health practitioner. Student members are responsible for seeking appropriate guidance through their training to ensure membership, licensing, or practice requirements are met.
