Preparation of a Professional Will
State licensing boards in some states and the AAMFT Code of Ethics now require therapists to appoint an executor for their professional estates, so that arrangements can be made for the proper disposition of client records or for the referral of clients in the event of the therapist's retirement, disability, or death. In the new AAMFT Code, Subprinciple 2.5 will read: "In preparation for moving from the area, closing a practice, or death, marriage and family therapists arrange for the storage, transfer, or disposal of client records in conformance with applicable laws and in ways that maintain confidentiality and safeguard the welfare of clients." (The new Code goes into effect July 1, 2012.) Join Denis K. Lane, Jr. Attorney at Law an advisor for CPH and Associates, and Amanda Reeves, AAMFTs Staff Attorney as they discuss this in detail. Time: 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM EST Login instructions will be sent prior to the event. Please check your email regularly for this update.
