Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) are a great fit in all mental health or social service agencies--including yours!
MFTs are mental health professionals trained in psychotherapy and family systems. Licensed in all 50 states and in Quebec and Ontario, MFTs treat mental and emotional disorders within the context of marriage, couples and family systems, even if only an individual presents for treatment. MFTs hold graduate degrees at the Masters and/or Doctoral level.
MFTs diagnose and treat a wide range of serious clinical problems including: depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, mood disorders, eating disorders, chronic physical pain in children and adults, and marital distress and conflict. MFTs take a holistic perspective to health care. They are concerned with the overall, long-term well-being of individuals and their families.
Marriage and Family Therapy is:
- Brief (on average 12 sessions)
- Solution-focused
- Specific with attainable therapeutic goals, and
- Designed with the “end in mind”
