2014 AAMFT Annual Conference

October 16-19, 2014

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Deadline Date: 11:59pm EST, December 1, 2013

The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy is now accepting abstract submissions for the 2014 Annual Conference, October 16 – 19, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

There are a few cities synonymous with marriage and family therapy… Galveston (Galveston Family Institute), Philadelphia (Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic), Milan (Milan Center for Family Studies), New York (Ackerman Institute), Palo Alto (Mental Research Institute), Family Therapy Institute of Washington DC, and Milwaukee (Brief Family Therapy Center).

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is home of the Brief Family Therapy Center and its founders Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg. AAMFT is proud to announce we will be hosting a “Tribute to Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg, and the BFTC” on Friday of the 2014 Annual Conference. Friday will also be the day we feature, by invitation, solution focused brief therapy presentations. The remainder of the conference program (Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) will be created based on abstract submissions.

For the first time, in 2014, there is no theme. Therefore, AAMFT is excited to encourage submissions on a variety of topics. Please note, the 2013 conference experienced a record number of submissions for presentations and poster sessions. The process is highly competitive so I suggest you make your best efforts to write abstracts carefully and clearly.

AAMFT poster submissions have evolved from paper and colored pencils to elaborate, sophisticated demonstrations of highly evolved research. Over the last five years, the selection process for posters has become very competitive. We encourage you to submit your completed research project for consideration.

As you know, AAMFT and the California Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) are working with an independent firm to generate research that hopefully demonstrates MFTs would be cost effective independent providers for Medicare Part B. To compliment this research, AAMFT is seeking poster and presentation abstracts that feature state of the art research involving public policy, epidemiology, or mixed methods research. Abstracts that have a quantitative research component, public policy, or epidemiological implications will receive preferential consideration.

The deadline for abstract submissions is December 1, 2013. Extensions will not be given. The abstract form and frequently asked questions can be found by going to www.aamft.org and clicking on the Abstract Submission link.

If you have questions concerning submitting an abstract or becoming a reviewer please contact Andrew Alix at 703-253-0499 or aalix@aamft.org. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you in Milwaukee!
