AAMFT Minority Fellowship Program Winter Think Tank
February 1-4, 2012
Hilton Arlington, Arlington Virgina

Overview

At the 2012 AAMFT Winter Think Tank Fellows were exposed to and developed competency in various cultural epistemologies and methodologies needed to properly facilitate a nuanced understanding of the dynamic interplay of culture, mental health, and substance abuse. The training program was designed to prepare marriage and family therapy doctoral students to contribute to knowledge development - not just as consumers of knowledge but as knowledge producers as well.

The Minority Fellowship Program is a national workforce development program that seeks to- through collaboration with federal agencies like the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and leading behavioral health professional associations like AAMFT- increase the number of culturally competent behavioral health practitioners who provide substance abuse and other mental health services to underserved minority populations.

The 2012 MFP Winter Think Tank provided 22 Fellows from marriage and family therapy programs at 11 academic institutions across the nation with the opportunity to learn from, and network with, leading scholars and practitioners in the behavioral health field of marriage and family therapy. Through their continued participation in the MFP, Fellows can help to ensure the professional and academic advancement of the field of marriage and family therapy for generations to come.  If you are interested in learning more about Minority Fellowship Program, please visit our website or contact us at mfp@aamft.org
