Continuing Education

The AAMFT Institutes are approved to provide continuing education for marriage and family therapists and allied professionals by most major mental health organizations, including:
  • American Psychological Association: The AAMFT is approved by APA to offer continuing education for psychologists. The AAMFT maintains responsibility for the program.
  • National Board for Certified Counselors: The AAMFT is recognized by NBCC to offer continuing education for National Certified Counselors. We adhere to NBCC Continuing Education Guidelines. (NBCC#5209)
  • National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors: The AAMFT is approved by the NAADAC Approved Education Provider Program #000160. Continuing education is accepted by the most state licensing boards and many other regulatory boards and organizations. Please check directly with your state board or organization for continuing education requirements. Click here for the list of state board contacts.

Continuing education hours are verified on a contact hour basis. Attendance at the entire course is required for a continuing education certificate. We will not make any exceptions for late arrivals or early departures, so please plan all travel arrangements accordingly. Supervision course participants will be issued a certificate upon completion of course, and required post-course written assignments. All other participants will receive a certificate upon completion of course.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations and any subsequent request for refund must be made in writing and postmarked by February 6th.  If you are requesting a refund, documentation of the emergent issue preventing you from attending the event must be included.  This includes written verification from physicians or any other information explaining the issue as something that is unforeseeable, hence lending to your inability to attend the event.  Upon cancellation you have the right to request that your fee (in full) be held (for up to one year) and used toward application to another AAMFT event registration.  If you prefer a refund, and it is granted it will be less 50% of the total registration fee paid.  There will be no refund honored after February 13th.

Therapists from around the globe attend the AAMFT Institutes for Advanced Clinical Training. To give participants and instructors the chance to network with one another, the AAMFT hosts a free Welcome Reception and a complimentary Closing Reception. Don’t miss these opportunities to meet other mental health professionals, make new friends and connections, and enjoy light refreshments.
