Role: Who is a Site Visitor?

  • Volunteers their time on behalf of the Commission on Accreditation
  • Serves as the 'Eyes and Ears' of the Commission
  • Verifies quality in academic programs
  • Contributes to the MFT Profession

Why Do It?

By becoming a Site Visitor, you can help expand the MFT field and help to ensure quality instruction on marriage and family therapy.  The Commission relies on the expertise, integrity, and dedication of its pool of Site Visitors to verify and gather the information during the Site Visit.

Team Member

  1. Minimum of five years of advanced experience as an LMFT practitioner and/or educator/researcher in MFT
  2. Experience in performing supervisory administrative duties
  3. Current knowledge of the COAMFTE Accreditation Standards
  4. AAMFT Approved Supervisor
  5. Successful completion of COAMFTE Site Visitor Training
  6. Participation in a site visit every two (2) years to maintain 'Active Status'

Team Chair

  1. Remain an active/current Site Visitor
  2. Participated in at least 5 Site Visits over the past three years
  3. Recommendation by a minimum of 2 Site Visit Chairs
  4. Consistent positive evaluations by Team Members
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of current Accreditation Standards
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of outcome based education and outcome based assessment
  7. Experience writing Site Visit Report for all Standards
  8. Remain active/current in profession

Site Visitor Training

  1. Online Review of Accreditation Materials: become familiar with the accreditation process
  2. Online Assessment: helps to assess your knowledge of the COAMFTE accreditation process
  3. Hands-On Training: this in person training includes a short presentation and an experiential exercise where attendees will participate in and view mock site visits and prepare and write a Site Visit Report
  4. Survey: complete a short survey of your experience and provide feedback on the training

Accreditation Resources

Programs seeking accreditation are required to demonstrate compliance with Accreditation Standards and COAMFTE policies and procedures outlined in the COAMFTE Accreditation Manual.
