All Member Letter- May 3, 2011

Dear Member:
We hope you are doing well.

As you are aware, the HAMFT charter agreement with AAMFT will end on May 31, 2011. AAMFT would like to keep you up to date regarding the process following the “dechartering” of the division.

It is the understanding of AAMFT that Hawaii members have indicated they would like to maintain an affiliation with AAMFT via a charter agreement establishing a new division after May 31, 2011. To this end, AAMFT will assist those members wanting to advance and promote the profession of marriage and family therapy in Hawaii.

Necessary Steps
1. Hawaii members will identify a steering committee to help organize and establish a new division.
2. The steering committee will identify Incorporators and Registered Agent(s) for the new division.
3. The steering committee will
     a. Select initial Directors
     b. File Articles of Incorporation
4. The initial Board will then develop bylaws for the new division and establish a checking account.
5. After clinical members of AAMFT residing in Hawaii approve the initial bylaws, the initial Board will submit for AAMFT Board approval the initial Hawaii Board of Directors, proposed bylaws, signed charter agreement, and election cycle plan.
6. The AAMFT will approve/not approve the initial Board, bylaws, charter, and election cycle.

AAMFT is committed to helping all members in Hawaii in establishing a vibrant association serving the needs of marriage and family therapists as well as advancing the profession. AAMFT leaders (two teams) will assist members with the necessary steps through a series of meetings June 9-11. Please mark these dates and times on your calendar if you plan to attend.
