  2. To avoid loss of data it is strongly recommended that abstracts be prepared off-line and then pasted into the appropriate fields on the submission form. Please be sure to check spelling and delete any hard returns from the submission.
  3. All text fields below use character limits which count each space and punctuation mark as a character. To ensure your text will fit, it is recommended that you use a character counter when you create your submission. Overuse of characters will either create an error or not allow your abstract to be submitted.
  4. Only submit one abstract per title.
  5. The conference committee will make the final determination regarding the most appropriate format for each abstract accepted.

Abstract Summary: This is an abridged version (maximum of 60 words) of the abstract. If your proposal is selected, this short paragraph is the ONLY description of the session that will appear in marketing materials. Please write the abstract using the future verb tense (e.g., This workshop will...), do not use pronouns, and do not use quotation marks("). Abstract: This is a 300-word description of the proposed presentation and must include contradictory evidence or risks associated with the subject matter. Be as specific as possible about the content of your presentation and what the participants will learn. Research abstracts should include a statement of the research, results, and implications. Session Narrative: Detail how you would structure the session and how you would allocate the available time to cover all aspects of your proposal in a narrative form (DO NOT USE AN OUTLINE). Address how experiential activities, handouts, audiovisuals, etc. will be used in this session. Not necessary for research posters.


Learning Objectives:  Objectives must be measurable and observable. They should focus on the learner and contain action verbs that describe measurable behaviors. Do not use words such as "know", "understand", or "become familiar with". For examples of learning objectives and acceptable verbs, click here.

All meeting rooms will be equipped with a laptop, LCD projector and DVD equipment. Internet access will not be available.

By submitting this abstract, all presenters agree to the following should this abstract be selected:

  1. All presenters listed on the submission must be able to attend AAMFT15 in Austin, Texas and be available to present at any time during the conference. (Exception: Only LEAD Research poster presenters are required to attend. All others listed on research poster submissions as presenters are optional)
  2. Presenters must register for the conference by June 15, 2015.
  3. The lead presenter on this submission agrees to receive all correspondence and accepts responsibility for conveying conference related information to co-presenters.
  4. Presenters may not charge a separate attendance fee or sell products or services during the session or conference. Presenters who wish to sell products or services much purchase exhibit space.
  5. Appropriate "Releases of Confidential Information" have been obtained for all client materials and copyrighted materials that will be used or recorded as part of this presentation. The responsibility for protecting client confidentiality rests with the presenters.
  6. AAMFT will record selected 2015 conference presentations, including any video or audio excerpts played during the session. The recordings are distributed for educational purposes with no remuneration to presenters; proceeds are used to support the practice and profession of marriage and family therapy. Personal recordings of your own or other conference sessions is not permitted.
  7. Presenters must submit handout materials in PDF format electronically by August 1, 2015 to be posted online for participants to access. If materials are not submitted by August 1, 2015 the presenter will be responsible for the duplication and distribution of the materials at the time of the session at the presenter’s expense.
  8. Presenters agree to submit any PowerPoint presentation that will be used during this presentation in electronic format by August 1, 2015. This should be submitted as one (1) file regardless of the number of presenters in your session. These materials will NOT be sent to or be made available to participants. It will be sent directly to our audio visual partners to be streamed into your session room during the event.
  9. All presenters agree to submit a current resume or CV in WORD (or compatible) format to abstracts@aamft.org. The name of the attachment should be "Member ID Number-CV.doc". Please enter your member ID as a six digit number (e.g., if your ID # is 4697 the file should be named 004697-CV.doc). Resumes should be sent by November 15, 2014. NOTE: If your name is listed on multiple abstract submissions, AAMFT only needs ONE copy of your resume. You do NOT need to submit a resume for each separate submission.
  10. For presentations involving research with human subjects, the presenters confirm that the research has received approval from the appropriate Institutional Review Board and the data has been collected in an ethical manner.
  11. All Research Poster presenters affirm that data collection and analysis for the proposed abstract is complete at the time of this submission.
