Bio

Kenneth V. Hardy, Ph.D.
Kenneth V. Hardy, Ph.D., is a
Professor of Family Therapy at Drexel University in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania and Director of the Eikenberg Institute for
Relationships in New York, New York. He is a former Professor
of Marriage and Family Therapy at Syracuse University where he also
served as the
Director of the Clinical Training and Research and
Chairperson of the Department of Child and Family Studies. Dr.
Hardy is also the former Director of the Center for Children,
Families, and Trauma at the internationally renowned Ackerman
Institute for the Family in New York City.
Dr. Hardy, a Fellow of the AAMFT, and a
recipient of the International Association for Marriage and Family
Counselors’ (IAMFC) Distinguished Contribution to Marriage and
Family Counseling Award has received numerous citations and awards
for his accomplishments including the American Family Therapy
Academy’s Distinguished Contributions to Family Therapy and Social
Justice award, The AAMFT Training Award, and the coveted
Teacher/Scholar of the Year award at Syracuse University.
Dr. Hardy has been actively involved in the
AAMFT as both a volunteer and a member of the national staff. He has
been a member of the Continuing Education Committee, the Membership
Committee, the Ethnic Minority Committee, the Minority Task Force,
the Ethics Committee, and served as Legislative Liaison for the
NYAMFT. In addition to his voluntary work for AAMFT, he also served
on the national staff, holding several positions including: Deputy
Executive Director; Acting Executive Director; and Executive
Director of the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family
Therapy Education.
He has published extensively in the area of
family therapy including co-author of Minorities and Family
Therapy, Teens Who Hurt: Clinical Intervention for Breaking
the Cycle of Youth Violence, and a forthcoming book with Monica
McGoldrick, Revisioning Family Therapy: Race, Class, Gender, and
Culture. Dr. Hardy has also served on the editorial boards of
several distinguished journals in the field including the Journal
of Marital and Family Therapy, Family Process, Psychotherapy
Networker, the Journal of Couples Therapy, the Journal of Divorce,
and the Journal of Narrative Therapy and Community Works.
Dr. Hardy maintains a private practice in New
York City specializing in family therapy where his work has received
considerable public acclaim in both the electronic and print media,
having appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show, Dateline NBC, ABC’s
20/20, and PBS.
