The AAMFT Research and Education Foundation

Promoting the well being of marital and family life through research, education, and special projects in marriage and family therapy, family policy and family science.

In their daily work with families, marriage and family therapists are acutely aware of the changing social trends and pressures affecting families and the impact of larger systems on family functioning and well-being. They also know from their practice that marriage and family therapy makes a positive difference in the lives of many families.

OUR MISSION

For these reasons, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy established in 1947 the non-profit AAMFT Research and Education Foundation with this mission:

  • To promote the well being of families by advancing the contributions that marriage and family therapy, family science, family research, and family policy can make to marital and family life.
  • To address the long-term needs of the profession by promoting marriage and family therapy research and education.
  • To advance the contributory aspects of marriage and family therapy through projects that facilitate technology transfer (for example, transferring our knowledge about family systems to public policy and other human services) and public education about marriage and family therapy and family systems theory and research.
